The role of ventilation

People spend over 90% of their time in closed environments: it is essential to maintain healthy and comfortable conditions throughout
the year.

By insulating the building and installing efficient air conditioning systems it is possible to create or renovate buildings in order to
achieve a very low energy consumption.

This, however, makes it necessary to improve air quality as well:

  • The indoor air must be renewed to prevent pollutants from “stagnating” and avoid the formation of mould
  • Make-up air introduced from outdoors can be polluted with particles and other substances, so it is necessary to perform filtering
and purifying operations before introducing it into the builing
  • The energy contained in the exhaust air con be recovered to reduce consumption, instead of wasting it by directly discharging it
    outdoors

Air renewal allows to always keep the home environment clean and comfortable: ELFOFresh EVO is the perfect solution to do this in
an economical and eco-friendly way..

ELFOFresh EVO is the innovative air renewal and purification system, with active thermodynamic recovery and R32 refrigerant, ideal
for new buildings, renovations, homes and offices between 90 m2 and 250 m2 .

The unit is designed to facilitate installation into false ceilings (it is only 290mm high)

Key Features:

  • Integrated heat pump and compressor – no external unit required
  • Heating, Cooling and MVHR from a single ceiling-mounted unit via standard MVHR ductwork
  • Plug-and-play controller incorporating thermostat, programmer and humidity sensor
    • App-enabled with MODBUS connectivity as standard
  • Ceiling mounted, saving wall and floor space
    • Total unit weight: 44 kg (11 kg per fixing point)
  • Only 290/300 mm ceiling void depth required
  • Rotatable duct turrets for installation flexibility

additional information

Please see below a link to Elfo-Fresh EVO 2 Video below. this shows how it helps reduce short cycling of the main ASHP during spring and autumn, as it uses its in-built heat pump during these times, which can satisfy the heating/cooling requirement of the building in many cases, this is an example only, as I imagine if your looking at Flat project’s you may use the Elfo-Fresh as the main source of heating/cooling & MVHR, which is the most common way that these units are installed. We always recommend the use of a secondary source of heating, this is to ensure the unit always has a minimum in dwelling air temperature of 15 deg/c for cold weather start up.

The ELFO-Fresh Evo 2, Although it is used as the MVHR unit, it has been tested by BRE as a Heat pump, which has a much higher level of qualifying requirements, this is usually beneficial when we add the Elfo-fresh into our UK SAP/EPC calculations as it can really improve the overall SAP/EPC rating for the building, in regards to entering the unit into the SAP calculations as an MVHR unit, then this should be entered under the Manual/manufactures supplied performance data section.

When entering the unit as an MVHR unit you may need the following information.

1. It has an SPF of 1 or lower “depending on the ventilation rate required”.

Information below is supplied by the manufacture This may apply to you Ben (we would imagine the Co -living/Flat’s would be set on the minimum rate 125m3/h).

2. Its efficiency is above 80%
